- If the deck selects the tape type, it is in effect choosing between
- 120us and 70us equalization. So the first sentence and the second
- are contradictory. Both chrome and metal tapes utilize the same
- (70us) equalization, so your car deck is not misbehaving.

-
- Are you going to "optimize" for both recording and playback? Again,
- it makes no sense when you talk about recording "at 120us." Presumably,
- this optimization involves calibrating your azimuth alignment to a
- standard tape, which is pretty much independent of tape type. Are
- you also going to adjust calibrations for Dolby and record bias?
-
- In any case, the probable cause for your dissatisfaction is a
- mismatch in azimuth alignment between your home and car decks,
- and, except by trial-and-error attempts to match the setting on
- your car deck by adjusting your home deck, you will probably need
- to adjust the alignment on the car deck as well.
-
- Keep in mind that changing the alignment on your home deck will
- cause recordings made on that deck in the past to sound bad when
- played back after the adjustment is made.
