- Sir,
- In response to you request for carver info I have the following
- to offer:
-
- I personally own a Carver 1090 integrated amp ($600) with his
- Sonic Holography circuit.
-
- I really liked the way Carver's Amps sound i listened to NAD,
- Adcom, B&K, Hafler, Denon, Yamaha, and Hardon Karmon and a few
- others.
- I felt that under $1000, Carver was the best deal.
- I thought his amps had a "warm" spatial sound, and his holographic
- circuit (if you have a good room set up properly) sounds really
- nice. I listen to it through a pair of Paradigm 7se MkII's that
- i have tweeked out to the max. i carted the integrated amp around
- and listened to 30 pairs of speakers and nothing under $1000
- sounded better (to me...) than the paradigms with this amp.
- i set my spending limit at $1100 or so for the amp/speaker
- combo, and i still get a lot of "slack Jawed" reactions from
- friends when i crank it up. I keep it in a customized cabinet
- with a cooling fan built into the back for those long parties.
-
- A few things to note: The pre-amp section of this amp is not
- the greatest, if you leave the tuner on, you can pick up cross-
- talk on all of the other input channels except the "CD-Direct"
- input which bypasses all of that. I borrowed a fiends adcom
- GFP-565 preamp and ran it through the preamp inputs and man,
- what a difference. (of course that is a $700 preamp)
- you will also get crosstalk from phono and tape (it is only
- noticable with headphones and when the volume is cranked
- and you have no other sound playing)
-
- If you only play one source at a time, you should have no problem.
- so my final recommendation is :thumbs-up Buy Bob!
- if you can afford it, get one of his better separate power amp
- pre-amp deals.
-
- ned.
