- I have observed the same thing, BUT, I played around a bit with an
- oscilloscope. My CD player will generate a 2V signal (this looks like
- 2V peak to peak on the scope on loud passages I could find). This +-1 volt
- signal would drive my dyanaco power amp to generate pretty much it's max
- swings without clipping (60V peak to peak i.e. +-30 volt swings).

- I was inclined to agree with this (before I saw your post), but adding gain
- to the preamp would be driving my power amp to clip and distort the louder
- passages. These CD's just have a lot of dynamic range.
- Admittedly my little satellite speakers are pretty inefficient, this may
- be the root of my problem, otherwise, I just need more power, more efficient
- speakers, or both. Comments??
