- Menchu Invites Puerto Rican Independence Party to Mexico City
-
- Nobel Peace Prize Winner and activist Rigoberta Menchu invited
- members of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) to deposit
- the parchment with her in the Templo Mayor in Mexico City. Ruben
- Berrios, President of the PIP, said Menchu's action meant an
- acknowledgement of Puerto Rico's status as a sovereign nation.
- Party spokespeople said that Menchu's recognition would put Puerto
- Rico on the political map and would serve to underscore the
- colonialism that still exists on the island. (edlp 12/18/92 byline
