  24. Menchu Invites Puerto Rican Independence Party to Mexico City

  26. Nobel Peace Prize Winner and activist Rigoberta Menchu invited
  27. members of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) to deposit
  28. the parchment with her in the Templo Mayor in Mexico City. Ruben
  29. Berrios, President of the PIP, said Menchu's action meant an
  30. acknowledgement of Puerto Rico's status as a sovereign nation.
  31. Party spokespeople said that Menchu's recognition would put Puerto
  32. Rico on the political map and would serve to underscore the
