  51. Mahmut Ozkan, Evren Ozkan (the 27-year-old nephew of Mahmut),
  52. Abdullah Ozkan, Sehmuz Ozkan, Cuco Ozkan and his sister Nezan
  53. were released on 5 December 1992. Halil Ozkan apparently had not
  54. been detained. All the others and Hayriye Ozkan, the 18-year-old
  55. daughter of Mahmut, were charged and committed to prison in Urfa
  56. for later transfer and trial at the State Security Court in Diyarbakir.
  57. Charges are thought to concern support for the guerrillas of the
  58. Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).

  60.   It has been reported that Mahmut Ozkan was made to sit and
  61. watch the torture of members of his family with electric shocks,
  62. beating and being suspended by the wrists. His son Lokman and his
  63. brother Omer were allegedly kept standing with their hands bound
  64. above their heads for four or five days. The girls were reportedly not
  65. tortured, but all were denied food for five days. Lokman Ozkan suffers
  66. from jaundice and requires a special diet. None was issued with a
  67. medical certificate when examined by a doctor at the end of the
  68. detention period as is routine procedure.
