- Subject: SPECIAL: Z Offer: SAMPLE ISSUE
-
-
- Z magazine's self-descriptive paragraph is enclosed below, but in my
- own words...
-
- Z is a really cool, monthly, advertising-free (!) political
- magazine, roughly 100 pages of wonderfully wholesomely radical
- articles, columns, book and movie reviews, cartoons, etc --
- in-depth and high in quality.
-
- Regular Z writers include Stephen Shalom, Holy Sklar, Bell Hooks
- ("Sisters of the Yam"), Noam Chomsky (Foreign Policy), Brian Tokar
- (Ecology) Edward Herman ("Double Speak") and many others among the
- most articulate voices of the American left.
-
- Z also has regular columns on culture, sports, movies, and so on, as
- well as political cartoons by the Matt Wuerker, without hyperbole the
- best political cartoonist I've seen (although there are others quite
- good).
-
- "Now how much would you pay ?" (-;
-
- Z can't afford to send a free sample issue of such a 100-odd page
- advertising free delicious magazine; but for a miserly $3 (that's
- practically $2.99!) you can have a sample issue mailed to you.
-
- Right now Z is having a membership drive to help fund it's latest
- project: Z-radio, which will bring progressive programming to
- stations across the country.
-
- Z itself is a project of the NONPROFIT Institute for Social and
- Cultural Change, and other "projects," now thriving, include South
- End Press, the speaker's bureau Speak Out!, and the New Liberation
- News Service.
-
- If you decide to subscribe, a year's sub. of 12 issues is only $25
- ($18 low income/student/unemployed). The address and phone number is
- below...

- Please send me or Rich email if you plan to send out for a
- sample issue (or sub.), or if you have any question.

- Actually, they do run, for free, "adverts" on the back pages --
- announcements of upcoming activist events/meetings/conferences/etc;
- and they do occasional run duplications of advertisements; the
- September issue, for example, reproduces a full page add in the
- textile magazine "bobbin" advising investors how wonderful El Salvador
- is, since you can "Hire [people like] Rosa [pictured at her sewing
- machine] for only 57 cents an hour!"
-
- Z is also now offering a special "500 Years of The New World Order"
- 1992 calendar illustrated by Matt Wuerker, which you should get
- information about with your sample issue or subscription.
-
- The cover photo of the calendar, with G. Bush, Kissinger, et al
- landing, 1492, on the beach with a dollar-bill flag, over a banner of
- "Five Centuries of Kicking Ass," and with Native American suspiciously
- eyeing the leaflets the gang is distributing which hail "AMERICA
- DISCOVERED!" (among other details Wuerker puts in) is alone worth
- getting the September issue for.
