  39. Z magazine's self-descriptive paragraph is enclosed below, but in my
  40. own words...

  42.     Z is a really cool, monthly, advertising-free (!) political
  43.     magazine, roughly 100 pages of wonderfully wholesomely radical
  44.     articles, columns, book and movie reviews, cartoons, etc --
  45.     in-depth and high in quality.

  47. Regular Z writers include Stephen Shalom, Holy Sklar, Bell Hooks
  48. ("Sisters of the Yam"), Noam Chomsky (Foreign Policy), Brian Tokar
  49. (Ecology) Edward Herman ("Double Speak") and many others among the
  50. most articulate voices of the American left.

  52. Z also has regular columns on culture, sports, movies, and so on, as
  53. well as political cartoons by the Matt Wuerker, without hyperbole the
  54. best political cartoonist I've seen (although there are others quite
  55. good).

  60. advertising free delicious magazine; but for a miserly $3 (that's

  64.     project: Z-radio, which will bring progressive programming to
  65.     stations across the country.

  101. Actually, they do run, for free, "adverts" on the back pages --
  102. announcements of upcoming activist events/meetings/conferences/etc;
  103. and they do occasional run duplications of advertisements; the
  104. September issue, for example, reproduces a full page add in the
  105. textile magazine "bobbin" advising investors how wonderful El Salvador
  106. is, since you can "Hire [people like] Rosa [pictured at her sewing
  107. machine] for only 57 cents an hour!"

  109. Z is also now offering a special "500 Years of The New World Order"
  110. 1992 calendar illustrated by Matt Wuerker, which you should get
  111. information about with your sample issue or subscription.

  113. The cover photo of the calendar, with G. Bush, Kissinger, et al
  114. landing, 1492, on the beach with a dollar-bill flag, over a banner of
  115. "Five Centuries of Kicking Ass," and with Native American suspiciously
  116. eyeing the leaflets the gang is distributing which hail "AMERICA
  117. DISCOVERED!" (among other details Wuerker puts in) is alone worth
  118. getting the September issue for.
