- ATTENTION ENVIRO-ACTIVISTS!

- NATIONAL GRASSROOTS GAS GUZZLER CAMPAIGN NEEDS YOU!!
-
- One of the greatest threats to the global environment and human
- health is as close as the street outside your front door. This
- April, we're going to do something about it.
-
- Gas guzzling, fuel-inefficient automobiles harm virtually every
- aspect of our ecosystem, and are the single biggest contributor to
- global warming and groundlevel ozone (smog). Studies estimate that
- up to 30,000 people die each year because of car air pollution.
-
- This spring, we're launching the national TICKET AMERICA direct
- action campaign. We expect it to be controversial and provocative.
- Our aim: to make gas guzzlers as socially unacceptable as wearing
- fur. In the campaign's first phase, thousands of college student
- "Green Patrols" will fan out in hundreds of cities across the
- country to ticket gas guzzlers. The action is designed to generate
- massive publicity and public education.
-
- TICKET AMERICA is part of the national Gas Guzzler Campaign, an
- ongoing project to alter our nation's love affair with the
- polluting automobile. Campaign goals are 1) to educate the public
- about the environmental impact of automobiles; 2) to demonstrate
- how vehicle choice plays a significant role in reducing the
- environmental damage caused by automobile usage; and 3) to change
- the way people perceive the gas guzzling automobile from a status
- symbol to a health and environmental threat.
-
- April will be here before you know it. To find out how you can
- play a leadership role in TICKET AMERICA, contact us on PeaceNet at
- campaign@igc.apc.org or call Joe Mendelson at the Greenhouse Crisis
- Foundation, (202) 466-2823. Together we can make a difference --
- and have fun! Hope to hear from you soon.
