  24. Great!  At nic.funet.fi, we also had some feedback that the GNU
  25. software distribution is not documented very well, this will help at
  26. least some.  Nic.funet.fi has plans to develop some information
  27. services about available software and perhaps indexes and cataloging
  28. GNU software will be part of it.

  30. The file from sunsite is now also on pub/gnu/INDEX at nic.funet.fi.
  31. Also, at otax.tky.hut.fi there's a gopher server with some pointers to
  32. GNU software and information - gopher is an internet information
  33. service available from boomboc.micro.umn.edu and once you've installed
  34. gopher, you can access the otax GNU directory with
  35.  
  36. gopher -p English/Topics otax.tky.hut.fi

  38. and then selecting GNU from the menu.  Please however note the README
  39. file on the directory:

  49. server, especially at daytime.  Instead you can ftp directly from nic.funet.fi,
  50. prep.ai.mit.edu or any of the other ftp servers

  54. (which is currently the same machine as nic.funet.fi) in the future, and
  55. this directory will change into a link there."

  57. Ideas for how to organize the software distribution for easy access
  58. via gopher are welcome.  Currently it's just some pointers to the ftp
  59. archives and the abovementioned INDEX file, but some menus like
  60. "Software development tools", "GNU Bulletins", "Editors" and so on and
  61. putting the README files from the packages as well as pointers to the
  62. actual software there would make browsing the archives easier for
  63. people who can't recite the list of GNU packages by heart.
