  20. When running Emacs 18.55 not as an X11 client (i.e. in a regular
  21. terminal session) all is fine, but when it's run as an X client, Emacs
  22. turns extremely slow.

  24. Emacs is run off VMS 5.5-1 and the display is being opened on a
  25. Tektronics X terminal which talks to the VAX over DECnet.

  27. This is not a problem when emacs is run within an xterm or DECterm
  28. window.

  30. Any clues as to why it slows down so much under X?
