  17. There will be shared library support for SYSVR3 in the next release of
  18. XFree86. At this time we have shared library versions of libX and
  19. several other libraries. The mailing list for this work is
  20. Xfree86-svr3@physics.su.oz.au.

  40.    The title says it all.  Last I heard it was in the works but would take
  41.    a while.  It is an exciting prospect to me, key to the viability of
  42.    X in 386 UNIX environment.  MIT should have rolled in the shared lib
  43.    support that was out there for R4.  The R5 release for 386's from MIT,
  44.    with assembly optimizations cut from the server, shared libs cut from
  45.    the client libs, is totally undesirable to me.  My R4 installation is 
  46.    fast and lean.  The MIT R5 for 386's is slower and fatter.  Since I
  47.    lack some low-level functions for I18N anyway, why bother?

  49.    By the way, all you XFree86 folks, keep up the good work!  In this
  50.    matter, you guys look a lot like the cavalry coming to the rescue...
