- There will be shared library support for SYSVR3 in the next release of
- XFree86. At this time we have shared library versions of libX and
- several other libraries. The mailing list for this work is
- Xfree86-svr3@physics.su.oz.au.
-
- I cannot give any more details on this at this time.
-
- regards,
- -Jim.

- The title says it all. Last I heard it was in the works but would take
- a while. It is an exciting prospect to me, key to the viability of
- X in 386 UNIX environment. MIT should have rolled in the shared lib
- support that was out there for R4. The R5 release for 386's from MIT,
- with assembly optimizations cut from the server, shared libs cut from
- the client libs, is totally undesirable to me. My R4 installation is
- fast and lean. The MIT R5 for 386's is slower and fatter. Since I
- lack some low-level functions for I18N anyway, why bother?
-
- By the way, all you XFree86 folks, keep up the good work! In this
- matter, you guys look a lot like the cavalry coming to the rescue...
