- Hello,
-
- I posted this this morning to comp.windows.x and just discovered better
- places to post it
-
- Note: Meat of this query in paragraph 3. paragraphs 0-2 establish context.
-
- 0 I have an old SunView application. I have a 486 box with Dell Unix SysVR4
- Issue 2.2. Despite XView's warts the cv2xview script which converts
- a SunView applications to an XView application, appears to make it best
- choice of a toolkit for porting the SunView application to X. At least
- in the short term. Sooner or later I may want/need to rewrite the
- application using another toolkit. If not XView, which toolkit?
- Another posting will examine this question in more detail.
-
- 1 I am an X-beginner and have little experience with XView or any other
- X dialect. cv2xview produced an application with lots of pixrects
- and other remnants of the SunView heritage. At least it compiles
- and links (almost). I am left with one uresolved external pr_load()
- which loads an image file into a pixrect. This is the subject of
- a previous post.
-
- 2 XView is broken on Dell Unix. Example 12-1 from O'Reilly Vol. 7 will
- not compile under Dell Unix. I am left with several undefined symbolic
- constants including: NOTICE_MESSAGE_STRINGS, NOTICE_BUTTON_YES,
- NOTICE_BUTTON_NO, NOTICE_YES, ... This is the subject of a previous
- post.
-
- 3 Dell supports an X11R5 system. Dell's front line tech support does
- not have access to the source code used to compile the actual Dell
- distribution. The employee who built their X system no longer works
- there. Dell has determined that XView is not included in the X11R5
- distribution tape and is speculating that XView is no longer supported.
- I browsed around in the x-faq and only found mention of X11R3 and X11R4
- versions of XView. What are the X Consortium's plans for XView. Is
- it impossible, difficult, or easy to retrofit the X11R4 version of XView
- onto an X11R5 system?
-
- Thanks,
- Drew Einhorn
