  13. I'm not familiar with the Telebit modems, but we've had problems trying to use
  14. modems that compress data to get speeds > 9600 baud.  It seems that the 
  15. compression algorithms that are used channelize the phone line and essentially
  16. become half duplex (which works well when you're trying to send large amounts
  17. of data in one direction).   We observed all sorts of unexpected trouble when
  18. trying to use these higher speeds.  Hope this helps!
