- Our primary db application utilizes a DEC 5000/240 as an INGRES server
- (it is dedicated to run an INGRES 6.4 server to front ends on other DEC-
- systems via INGRES/NET).
-
- Usage has grown and, as a result, the 5000/240 needs to be replaced. Our
- need is for a system with at least twice the cpu throughput in terms of
- single-stream performance; somewhat better i/o, but that is not a bottleneck
- currently; complete INGRES/NET interoperability with DEC and SUN-based
- INGRES front ends; complete rsh and nfs interoperability with DEC and SUN
- systems.
-
- We have nowhere to go with DEC (the R4000-based upgrade has been substantial-
- ly delayed and it will be at least a year before INGRES is available on
- any ALPHA-based systems) so we are looking at other vendors. Any input,
- mailed directly to me, will be appreciated.
