  21. I don't know who DISCO is, nor what their expectations are about declassifying
  22. disks.  Some things to think about though...

  24. It is VERY hard for a simple host program to erase blocks that have
  25. been revectored/replaced.  While the typical user application might
  26. consider such data corrupt, a person trying to steal information
  27. may well be willing to take anything potentially interesting.

  29. If the person trying to steal your old data is willing to try hard
  30. enough, even overwriting with meanless information, may not be enough
  31. to completely erase all trace of the old contents.  There may be some
  32. cases where physical destruction (or strong magnetic fields) is the
  33. only way to keep some people happy.

  35. If "sufficient" passes of meaningless information is good enough, then
  36. the revectored/replace block problem is the only hard one.  In that
  37. case the formatter for the disk may be able to help.  Check with the
  38. disk or controller vendor.
