-
- I don't know who DISCO is, nor what their expectations are about declassifying
- disks. Some things to think about though...
-
- It is VERY hard for a simple host program to erase blocks that have
- been revectored/replaced. While the typical user application might
- consider such data corrupt, a person trying to steal information
- may well be willing to take anything potentially interesting.
-
- If the person trying to steal your old data is willing to try hard
- enough, even overwriting with meanless information, may not be enough
- to completely erase all trace of the old contents. There may be some
- cases where physical destruction (or strong magnetic fields) is the
- only way to keep some people happy.
-
- If "sufficient" passes of meaningless information is good enough, then
- the revectored/replace block problem is the only hard one. In that
- case the formatter for the disk may be able to help. Check with the
- disk or controller vendor.
