- Setup:
-
- EISA 486DX50 with 16 MB, AMI BIOS dated 12/12/91
- Adaptec 1542B (BIOS V3.10) (resistor pack removed)
- Internal SCSI HDD Toshiba MK-538FB (1.2 GB formatted, 1172 cyl), ID 0
- Internal SCSI Tape Drive Wangtek 5150ES (resistor pack installed), ID 2
- External SCSI CD-ROM Drive Toshiba TXM-3301B (resistor pack installed), ID 4
- ATI Graphics Ultra with the InPort Mouse
- 2 Serial, 1 Parallel, 1 Game Ports
-
- I had previously ESIX 4.0.4 installed on 2 IDE hard disks, and it worked fine.
- I've replaced the second IDE HD with a 1.2 GB SCSI HD, and although DOS 5.0 and
- OS/2 2.0 would work fine with both disks (except Windows 3.1 when installed on
- the SCSI HD), ESIX wouldn't recognize the SCSI HD.
-
- So, I gave up using the IDE HD, and removed the IDE/floppy adapter from the
- system. With only the SCSI HD in the system, DOS and OS/2 would work fine,
- but ESIX wouldn't install.
-
- I have formatted the disk from within ESIX, during installation, and I have
- also verified the disk (BTW, I was told that the verify would take "no more
- than 392 minutes" for a 574 MB partition; it took about 5 minutes).
-
- Problem #1. I couldn't create a DOS partition larger than 32 MB from within
- ESIX.
-
- I had to exit, and boot DOS from floppy; I created a 234 MB primary partition,
- and a 352 MB extended (which became later an OS/2 HPFS partition).
-
- I rebooted ESIX, created a 574 MB UNIX partition, and at the end of the
- allocation, after "Is this allocation acceptable to you (y/n)? y", I've got
- the following messages:
-
- Warning: SD01: Incorrect partition 0, Err: 6dd0b005
-
- Filesystems will now be created on the needed slices.
- Creating the / filesystem on /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s1
-
- Warning: SD01: Incorrect partition 0, Err: 6dd0b005
- Warning: SD01: Incorrect partition 0, Err: 6dd0b005
-
- Disksetup: Unable to create filesystem on /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s1
- Disksetup: Bad File Number
- Cannont create/mount the / file system.
- Please contact your services representative for further assistance.
-
- Problem #2. Does this mean that ESIX cannot be installed on a disk larger than
- 1 GB?
-
- Any help will be greatly appreciated.
