- Last I heard, ESIX 4.2 was in Beta. No release date set yet.

-
- Amongst the pieces of UnixWare not included with Consensys are:
-
- - Full support for NetWare protocols. This is not a standard part of 4.2,
- but is an integral bundled part of all editions of Univel.
-
- - DOS-under-UNIX. Apparently Locus Merge has been substantially
- re-written, in order to allow DOS-Windows software to share space in the
- Destiny desktop. A text-based Merge is bundled with all Univel base
- products, and the Windows enhancement is a (not yet released) option.
-
- - Third-party hardware support. As in the past, Consensys officially
- supports the hardware supported in the USL base code, as well as its own
- peripherals. There are a number of peripherals supported by UnixWare
- but not Consensys, including MicroChannel peripherals and NE2000
- compatible network cards. (I imagine, though, that most third party
- drivers written for UnixWare will work on Consensys).
-
- Whether the above "features" are important depends, of course, on the
- need. Someone who doesn't need NetWare or Merge may be hard pressed to
- justify the the substantial difference in price between the two.
-
- Then there are other, less-tangible factors. Univel looks to be ramping
- up a fairly decent technical support department.
