- I've finally gotten around to setting up a named for the first time.
- It's plenty fun; almost as arcane as uucp...
-
- I get it up and running OK, and access it using nslookup just fine,
- except that I have to specify fully-qualified names
- (machine.subdomain.toplevel) in order to get a match. Setting debug
- ON, I find that
-
- > machine
-
- generates a lookup for machine.toplevel, rather than
- machine.subdomain.toplevel.
-
- I'm really at a loss as to why my named thinks its the root server for
- the "com" domain, instead of "ourcompany.com". Anyone got any advice
- for the standard things I should check?
-
- I'm running SunOS 4.1.1 on a SparcII. I've got a nice hefty
- /var/named/named.run to look at (I started named with a debug level of
- 5), so if you've got pointers into there, that would help.
