- Actually Phil Katz (PK zip for MSDOS) is probably the original product, and
- INFO-ZIP is a group that's out there to make a Unix version of this DOS
- utility. That's my guess at least, but I could be wrong.

- It all depends on the type of files you are trying to compress. There
- are pathological cases that don't compress nearly at all when using
- (fill in the blank) archiver/compressor. That's true of practically any
- archiving/compressing program.

- Needless to say, there are others to choose from. Take a look at lha
- and or arj. These typically do a better job than zip. (lha is avail-
- able for unix; is arj?)

- mail larger binaries around - a lot less processing to do by mr. operator.

- I've never used zipsplit. However, I find that 'dd' is wonderful for
- storing large files on multiple disks.
