  13. Here's the background on my problem.
  14. I work for a software/hardware distributor, and currently, on every person's
  15. desk, is: A Wyse 50 terminal, A/B switchbox, A modem, and a serial cable
  16. to the terminal server.  What we want to do (because we have about 7 different
  17. unix boxes) is to set up 1 machine with a bank of modems (the ones on the
  18. desks), in order to dial out through the modems.  This would allow us to
  19. also free up our desk telephones for voice only.  I've tried 'tip', and I
  20. didn't get a reliable connection.  This is a problem, because our apps.
  21. include ASCII graphics and control characters.  If we loose certain characters,
  22. we could loose the whole screen, etc.  What I'm looking for, is an
  23. application (commercial or otherwise) that would allow us to dial out and act
  24. as a terminal, and later, enable us to do file transfers on the same type of
  25. machine (unix).  I guess what I'm looking for is like a Telix, or Procomm
  26. (DOS) type of utility for unix.

  28. Finally, let me say that I've read the FAQ files, and I did not see anything
  29. that would help me with this problem.  I'm not experienced enough at unix to
  30. know how, or what SLIP does.  I've heard that it's some kind of Internet
  31. Protocol or something. I don't know if this will solve my problem, but I should
  32. say that some of the machines we will be calling might not have SLIP.
