- I've read all the articles back that I could retrieve, but I only
- found an attempt to create a faq, so I decided to ask a few novice
- questions here. I have an unopened 386BSD compact disc with GNU
- Software distribution, X, a.s.o. I realize that installation notes
- are on the disc, but I haven't purchased the machine for it yet and do
- not have the compact disc drive. Without it, I am not sure what
- hardware to purchase... If any of the more experienced 386BSD users
- could answer the questions below, I would appreciate it:
-
- 1. I am planning to purchase 340 MB drive and split it in half between
- OS/2 and 386BSD. Will it be enough? How much space does it
- require? Can it be installed on the same drive as OS/2?
- 2. Is Adaptec 1542B supported?
- 3. Is 16 MB of memory sufficient to run X comfortably?
- 4. Does it support dumb/intelligent serial terminal multiport cards?
- 5. I would like to buy Diamond SpeedStar 24X with the WD chipset. Is
- this card supported?
- 6. I know EISA would be preferrable, but I can't afford it. Is there
- any point in even bothering with ISA bus? Will it be very slow?
- 7. Of the three (for those who use them all or two of them) - which
- one seems most stable: Coherent/Linux/386BSD?
-
- Thanks,
-
