  32. There are patched bootables on rachel for Compaq boxes; this is what you
  33. probably need.  Internally (and I believe posted here) was a recent fix
  34. that removed a register-clobbering NOP in the wdboot.  Initial returns
  35. have pegged this as the Compaq problem; however, without a working
  36. kernel, one can't rebuild wdboot and replace it on a boot disk.

  38. I believe the some-time Gateway problem is the all-the-time Compaq
  39. problem; thus the rachel Compaq bootables should be usable on Gateway
  40. to get around the problem until the real fix can be applied and new
  41. bootables created locally.
