  12. below for details.

  14. If you've never heard of it, MH is the mail system that RAND
  15. wrote several years ago and has been maintained for the last few
  16. years by the kind folks at UC Irvine.

  34.     I'm pleased to announce a new release of the UCI version of
  35.     the RAND MH Message Handling System.  The current release is
  36.  
  37.       MH 6.8
  38.  
  39.     Here are the details:
  40.  
  41.     - MH is in the public-domain
  42.     - MH runs on a number of versions of UNIX (4.[123]BSD, V7,
  43.       SYS5, and related variants, e.g., SVR4, HPUX)
  44.     - MH runs on top of a number of mail transport systems
  45.       (MMDF-{I,II}, SendMail, stand-alone (with UUCP support))
  46.  
  47.     Although MH is not "supported" per se, it does have a
  48.     bug-reporting address, Bug-MH@ICS.UCI.EDU (ucbvax!ucivax!bug-mh).
  49.     Bug reports (and fixes) are welcome, by the way.  There are also
  50.     two Internet discussion groups:  MH-Users@ICS.UCI.EDU and
  51.     MH-Workers@ICS.UCI.EDU.  MH-Users is bi-directionally gatewayed
  52.     to USENET as comp.mail.mh.

  54. CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
  55.  
  56.     There are quite a few changes in this release.  Of particular
  57.     note:  MH can now handle multi-media (MIME) messages.  I will
  58.     post the entire MH changes document separately.

  60. HOW TO GET MH
  61.  
  62.     There are two ways to get the latest release:
  63.  
  64.     1.  If you can FTP to the ARPA Internet, use anonymous FTP
  65.     to ftp.ics.uci.edu [128.195.1.1] and retrieve the file
  66.     pub/mh/mh-6.8.tar.Z.  This is a tar image after being run
  67.     through the compress program (approximately 1.8MB).  There
  68.     should also be a README file in that directory which tells
  69.     what the current release of MH is, and how to get updates.

  71.     This tar file is also available on louie.udel.edu
  72.     [128.175.1.3] in portal/mh-6.8.tar.Z.  You may also find MH
  73.     on various other hosts; to make sure you get the latest ver-
  74.     sion and don't waste your time re-fixing bugs, it's best to
  75.     get it from either ftp.ics.uci.edu or louie.udel.edu.

  77.     The usual FTP mirror sites (uunet, etc.) should have MH 6.8
  78.     available within a few days.

  80.     2.  You can send $75 US to the address below.  This covers
  81.     the cost of a 6250 BPI 9-track magtape, handling, and ship-
  82.     ping.  In addition, you'll get a laser-printed hard-copy of
  83.     the entire MH documentation set.  Be sure to include your
  84.     USPS address with your check.  Checks must be drawn on U.S.
  85.     funds and should be made payable to:

  98.     Sadly, if you just want the hard-copies of the documenta-
  99.     tion, you still have to pay the $75.  The tar image has the
  100.     documentation source (the manual is in roff format, but the
  101.     rest are in TeX format).  Postscript formatted versions of
  102.     the TeX papers are available, as are crude tty-conversions
  103.     of those papers.

  105. UPDATES
  106.  
  107.     The updates from MH 6.7.2 to MH 6.8 are quite large (about
  108.     1.5Mb uncompressed).  I'm still considering how to make them
  109.     available.  More details will follow
