- Help!
-
- I'm new to A/UX, and I'm trying to format/mount my DRG 128REM
- (a magneto-optical drive based on the MOST mechanism) on a macIIcx.
- Have any of you suscessufully accomplished this feat?
- What's the trick?
-
- The error message in the A/UX System Console looks like:
- Disk write c3d0s30 Error: Illegal request, code = 0x26
- generic disk c3d0s30 Fatal Error: Logical block 0, physical block 0
-
- So far, I have tried
- 1) formatting with Apple's HD SC Setup under A/UX
- fails with error message something like
- "Possible Hardware Problem: call dealer"
-
- If the disk is formatted with APS 2.6.8, it can be
- partitioned with Apple's HD SC Setup under the Mac OS.
-
- 2) formatting/partitioning with APS 2.6.8 under mac os (disk
- never appears to load driver, and I don't know what
- /etc/disktab entry to use with newfs)
-
- 3) formatting/partitioning with Hard Disk ToolKit Lite
- (software that comes with the drive. (Same symptoms as with
- APS formatting software.)
-
- 4) A friend who owns the full up package of the Hard Disk
- ToolKit v1.1, used the World Control application to look at
- some SCSI Page parameters.
- [Note: I am now speculating in a technical area about
- which I am fairly ignorant.]
- Looking at SCSI Page 0, the Unit Attention command is
- enabled. According to the HardDisk Toolkit User's Manual,
- page 95, [and I'm paraphrasing now], "Enabling the unit
- attention command is an evil thing."
-
- I tried changing the value through software, but the
- parameter seems to revert to its original state on a reset.
-
- The DRG tech support person said to call Apple. Apple's tech support
- person, Carl, thought it was a long shot, but that maybe SilverLining
- would work. Before I invest in SilverLining, I'd like your opinions.
-
- thanks.
