  15. I'm new to A/UX, and I'm trying to format/mount my DRG 128REM
  16. (a magneto-optical drive based on the MOST mechanism) on a macIIcx.
  17. Have any of you suscessufully accomplished this feat?  
  18. What's the trick?

  20. The error message in the A/UX System Console looks like:
  21.      Disk write c3d0s30 Error: Illegal request, code = 0x26
  22.      generic disk c3d0s30 Fatal Error: Logical block 0, physical block 0

  24. So far, I have tried 
  25.     1) formatting with Apple's HD SC Setup under A/UX  
  26.        fails with error message something like
  27.        "Possible Hardware Problem: call dealer"
  28.  
  29.        If the disk is formatted with APS 2.6.8, it can be
  30.        partitioned with Apple's HD SC Setup under the Mac OS.
  31.        
  32.     2) formatting/partitioning with APS 2.6.8 under mac os (disk
  33.        never appears to load driver, and I don't know what
  34.        /etc/disktab entry to use with newfs)
  35.     
  36.     3) formatting/partitioning with Hard Disk ToolKit Lite 
  37.        (software that comes with the drive. (Same symptoms as with
  38.        APS formatting software.)
  39.     
  40.     4) A friend who owns the full up package of the Hard Disk 
  41.        ToolKit v1.1, used the World Control application to look at
  42.        some SCSI Page parameters.
  43.        [Note: I am now speculating in a technical area about
  44.               which I am fairly ignorant.]
  45.         Looking at SCSI Page 0, the Unit Attention command is
  46.        enabled.  According to the HardDisk Toolkit User's Manual,
  47.        page 95, [and I'm paraphrasing now], "Enabling the unit
  48.        attention command is an evil thing." 
  49.  
  50.        I tried changing the value through software, but the
  51.        parameter seems to revert to its original state on a reset.
  52.     
  53. The DRG tech support person said to call Apple.  Apple's tech support
  54. person, Carl, thought it was a long shot, but that maybe SilverLining 
  55. would work. Before I invest in SilverLining, I'd like your opinions.
