  14. What adapter to first external device cable are you using?   What and
  15. where is the external termination?
  16. SCSI busses are very sensitive to mixing matching different vendors
  17. cables and terminators  (Try to use all the same; IBM internal so try
  18. to use IBM external).
  19.   Check the drive in external box to make sure it doesn't have a 
  20. terminator on it.  If the external box has two scsi connection ports
  21. cable in one and terminate on the other.
