- I'm need to find a method for "liscencing" software on an AIX system. On
- a Sun I would use hostid to get a unique identifier for the machine I'm on.
- Under AIX, hostid seems to be made from the system's hostname, IP address
- or just a random hex number, so it's easy for someone with root access to
- bypass any access restriction scheme based on hostid.
-
- Is there anyway of getting a machine specific identifier which is not
- easily faked? Under SVR4, one could use sysinfo to get the serial number
- of the machine, is this possible under AIX?
-
- Thanks in advance ....
