- Hody Net,
- We are currently trying to decide to buy a Rs/6000-580, however a few
- concerns have come to mind, could some kind sole please comment on the
- following questions.
-
- 1) Is SCSI-2 supported on the 580, I have heard the the current version
- of AIX does not or has some problems with this interface.
-
- 2) I have been quoted aprox $560.00 per month for AIX phone support!
- Is this correct? is there any cheaper support packages??
-
- 3) How much PD software runs on this thing, ie Cnews, trn, pcomm, emacs
- etc. I use some much net software on my current Unix SysV.3 machine
- that I hate to go to a platform which won't run any of the GREAT
- software I'm acustomed to.
-
- 4) What software components are needed to run X on this thing, AIX windows
- X-station manager?. Are there any X-Terminals which will work with the
- RS/6000 becides the IBM ones. Someone told me that I want X Stations
- which have the window manager in rom instead of having to download that
- code when the X-station comes up. IS 2 meg on a X-station enough for good
- X performance and how much load does all of this put on the 6000??
-
-
- Thanks In Advance
