- This won't help you with this move, but I have learned that the only way to
- ensure that 3rd party applications (as well as PD stuff) can be moved with
- ease is if they are installed in their own subtree, and preferably their own
- filesystem/disk. With this configuration I was able to easily move my external
- disks containing my /depot and /home areas to my new machine last summer. I
- just hooked them up and imported the volume groups. It pays to plan ahead...

- If you don't have that option, make a backup of the entire disk. You could
- then try to extract the application files onto the new machine. Even better
- would be to install from scratch and put all your 3rd party stuff under
- /usr/apps or something to avoid this problem in the future. Your important
- configuration files will still be on the tape so you could extract them and
- then place them in their new locations.
