- I have an IBM RS6000 running AIX 3.2. It seems that the version of X that comes
- with the system is X11R5. I hear the current version is X11R5 and X11R6 is in
- the works! I find many of the neato public domain programs I would like to get
- say they need R5 to compile. Why is there such a big lag between R5 coming out
- and IBM distributing it to their customers? Is there an easy way for me to
- upgrade to R5 by getting some files from export.mit.edu? I really can't justify
- putting too much effort into it though. Let me know how hard it is.
-
- An unrelated question: I found out that to do certain things with Mathematica I
- need to have SGI's GL libraries installed. On my installation tape there are a
- couple of UPGRADES to those libraries, but not the ACTUAL libraries. Aren't
- those libraries part of the standard stuff that gets distributed, and if not,
- why would IBM send me upgrades to software I do not own?
