  10. Hello. My working group has been charged with developing a plan for
  11. providing remote workstation system management support, in effect,
  12. "rent-a-system-manager". Basically, we would provide system management
  13. services to workstation owners that have no desire to do those functions
  14. themselves. Services provided would include: 1) Resource Mgt 2) User Mgt
  15. 3) Standard Admin duties such as TCP, UUCP, security related tasks
  16. 4) Disaster REcovery - backup and restores 5) Hardware Installation
  17. 6) Software Installation/Maintenance - OS upgrades, 3rd party installs,
  18. etc. We have approximately 400 networked workstations on campus and
  19. anticipate about 40% of them willing to use this service.

  21. I know some commercial and academic sites provide this level of support
  22. where they have some type of site system mgt group that roams around
  23. providing system management support for a large number or workstations.
  24. I would like to hear of the problems/headaches/good things
  25. we may encounter. We are currently looking to offer support for DEC,
  26. Sun, IBM and NEXT Unix boxes. Any hints/advice/warnings would be greatly
