- When I was coming into this job, I was assigned as the junior under the
- system administrator. The primary activities I had were to *read* and
- maybe use simple non-destructive commands. Sometimes I watched over the
- shoulder of the sys admin for complicated proceedures. Usually the sys
- admin just delivered lectures on what was currently going on.
-
- About the most informative time I had was when the sys admin went on
- vacation and the system crashed hard.
-
- Now that I'm the sys admin, I have my backups (two of them) run the system
- for one day a week each. They take care of whatever problems come up. If
- anything too serious, I'm still there. When I'm gone myself now, they can
- handle almost any situation that comes up.
-
- Sometimes I have a backup write new scripts for system proceedures.
-
- This all seems to work very well for me.
