I would like to write an application that parses a document, performs some
function on the document, and then reproduces the original
document. For example, given a document, I would like to change the contents
of a particular element, but leave the rest untouched. (i.e. to produce a
identical copy of a document with some contents changed).
In order for that I need what I would call "markup structure information set"
(as opposed to the element structure information set). For example, I would
need to know about element minimization, entities, etc. Does any of the public domain or commercially available parsers provide that kind of information?
What about arcsgml? How difficult would it be to write such application using
arcsgml?
Thanks in advance,
Bernd
