Can anyone help. I'm in a bit of a dilemma as to whether i need Dat or Optical Disks for a project i'm working on.
We will be collecting data through a 200 channel Dat aAcquisition System connected to a Dos based 486 PC. There appear to be two routes we can take.
Route 1:
The resulting (max 1.5mb each) files will then be transferred to a 128mb Optical Disk(rmwm). This disk will then be transferred manually to another part of the city where it will be mounted on an identical drive connected to a Unix box(SPARCsation10). The files will then be transferred using Mtools (public domain software). This will be followed by numbetr crunching and graphical output. The resulting data will be archived onto a worm optical disk when the disk gets to full.
Route2:
This is the same as above but replacing the optical drives with Dat drives.
Can anyone give me some idea as to what i would be sacrificing in terms of transfer rates if i take the Dat route. The data from the pc will be transported when around 100mb has been collected.
