  21. This might be somewhat misleading.  Neither the SS2 nor the SS 10
  22. supports a "thick" RG-8 coaxial cable connection.  Neither do they
  23. support a "thin" RG-58 coaxial cable.  You need a transceiver to
  24. tie into either a Thick net or a Thin net cable, but neither Sparc
  25. has a built-in ethernet transceiver.  In fact, it seems the days
  26. of ethernet on coaxial cable are drawing to a close.  [I, for one,
  27. will not mourn it's passing.]

  29. The SS2 has an AUI port - a 15-pin D connector which plugs into an
  30. external ethernet transceiver.  This is the traditional, old-style
  31. sliding-latch ethernet connector for which Sun has taken a lot of
  32. abuse over the years (because of conector reliability problems.)

  34. The SS10 combines audio and ethernet AUI onto a single connector,
  35. but a custom cable is needed to split out the AUI pins to a true
  36. 15-pin AUI connector.  Sun sells an appropriate cable, but it does
  37. not come with the SS10 automatically.  (Several people have posted
  38. about this not-well-documented subtlety, and how they got "burned"
  39. by it.)  So take heed: if you need the AUI connector on an SS10,
  40. you *must* order the breakout cable explicitly.

  42. The SS10 *does* have a built-in 10baseT ethernet connector, which
  43. the SS2 does not have.
