-
- At the LISA conference we had a Sun-Managers BOF. I surveyed the
- audience and asked a number of leading questions (hey, it was my BOF :-))
-
- On the topic of what windowing systems do people use, it was a roughly
- even split. In a more detailed followup question, the people who used OW
- were those who (a) had to because of the application needs (ie, had
- 3rd party or Sun S/W which required OW), or (b) lacked the time and/or
- skill and/or political support to change to Motif or vanilla X.
-
- On the topic of unbundled software, a large percentage of the audience
- would prefer that OW became unbundled separately-priced software, so
- they could save some money.
-
- Lest anyone jump up and claim "non-scientific sample", well, yeah. But
- it was a collection of folks who manage Suns, with far more commercial
- sites present than academic.
-
- There was a nice polite sun person in the audience who took voluminous
- notes, so the word undoubtably got back.
-
-
- For those who want more details, I will be scrounging thru my notes and
- seeing what we come up with.
