  20. I grabbed a CD-ROM drive we had on a SGI to install Solaris on a Sparc 2.  SUN
  21. CD's would boot (with SCSI address 6) and the SUN could find the directories,
  22. files, etc.  However, the installation from the non-Sun CD drive failed in the
  23. extract script with mini-root installed and the disk re-formatted.

  26. Apparently there is a special EPROM (?) needed to work with a Sun. (And
  27. maybe each other workstation).

  29. Anyway, generic CD drives won't probably work. Ask your vendor if they have a
  30. drive that works with a Sun (references?) or can modify the drive to work with
  31. a Sun.  If they insist that no such modifications are needed get a new vendor
  32. or make them demonstrate that you can do an install from the drive.

  34. P.S. I was trying to use was a Toshiba from an SGI.  I eventually swiped a SUN
  35. CD drive from another SUN at work to install SOLARIS.
