- I want to improve the sound from the internal speaker of a SparcStation 1+.
- This would be a simple case of getting an external speaker such as is used on
- portable cassette players (Sony Walkman, etc), I thought.
-
- I managed to find in the documentation (it was well-hidden :-) a statement
- that anything plugged into the sound output socket should have an impedance of
- 30 ohms or more. However, all of the external speakers (powered and unpowered)
- I could find have an impedance of only 4 or 8 ohms.
-
- Now all of these are claimed to be suitable for connecting to a Walkman. But
- the impedances of headphones suitable for a Walkman are all 27-32 ohms.
-
- So, can I use external speakers with 4-8 ohm impedance on the Sun, or will I
- blow up the sound chip?
