We are currently looking at video capture and display cards for a network of Sun SPARC stations for our multimedia research lab. The cards will be used with a camera and other video devices to store video sequences in an object-oriented data base and then retrieve them for display.
JPEG compression is important, as well as an inexpensive way to display the video sequences. (Ideally we would get one relatively expensive cards for capture of our video and 4 inexpensive cards that could be used for display).
We are currently looking at VideoPix and the Parallax XVideo cards. Any other products in this realm or tales of experience would be much appreciated. I'll post a summary if I get some interesting responses.
