- Sun (and old SGI's apparently) expect 512byte sectors over SCSI while
- CD-ROM standards and most CD-Rom drives return 2048. Only Sony and
- Toshiba make drives that have a switch to go into that mode.
-
- I also bought a Texel. The lone US engineer is overworked and said he
- might be able to get a special rom sometime.
-
- The only solution I know of is to get the Young Minds CD driver
- software ($300 or $400 retail I think). The main thing this does is
- send a SCSI command to the drive to tell it to operate in 512byte
- mode.
-
- Hasn't anyone out there written something to do just that???
- If anyone has another solution, please write....
-
- I was also told that with Solaris 2.0, Sun will work with 2048 sector
- drives allowing most or all drives to work.
