- A machine I'm responsible for (Sparc2, SunOS 4.1.2) is exhibiting
- some odd behavior with 'finger'. Specifically, 'finger -q <user>'
- works, but 'finger <user>' just hangs. Doing 'finger <user>@grendel'
- (grendel is the machine in question) from another system also hangs,
- and aborting leaves a fingerd process accumulating CPU time forever.
-
- The fact that it works with '-q' leads me to believe that it has
- some problem trying to get information out of the password database
- (the info it displays with the -q option doesn't include anything
- that needs to be looked up in the PW database). I'm running NIS,
- but everything else seems to be able to access the password DB just
- fine.
-
- Any leads or suggestions on how to proceed in debugging this
- would be appreciated.
