  12. I am running Newsprint 2.1 on a Sparc 2 with a SPARCprinter attached 
  13. on lpvi0. Printing with his system is very unstable, so times the print
  14. jobs actually print and other times nothing happens. Sometimes a error
  15. page is printed that says:

  17. /usr/newsprint/printer_classes/SPARCprinter/C/ps/npcomm.T: NNNN 
  18.  Illegal instruction - core dumped
  19.  
  20. where NNNN is some number always greater than 1000
  21.  
  22. The log file in /var/spool/SPARCprinter says:

  24. %%[ PrinterError:engine handler not responding ]%%

  26. If you kill the lpd daemon and reload the printer driver
  27. and restart lpd, the printer starts to work again, but
  28. soon it is back to a random will it print this or not.

  30. We are running OpenWindows 2 but are using the OpenWindows 3
  31. Kit from the Newsprint distribution.
