- I have a similar problem on my machine running DNS without NIS. In order to
- fix this problem you must modify and rebuild the resolver library. It is not a
- trivial problem, but SUN support did send me a step-by step procedure(It varies
- with the version of the OS you are running. This mod is not supported by SUN
- since it does cause some peculiarities which are listed below:
-
- 1) inconsistent behavior between statically and dynamically linked executables
-
- 2) total dependency of system on route/connection to valid nameserver as listed
- in /etc/resolv.conf (no local /etc/hosts lookups at all)
-
- 3) dependency upon external nameserver for all new host to IP address
- translation additions, including "localhost"
-
- and a couple of others.
-
- I decided to go ahead and try to run NIS instead.
-
- If you really want to go ahead and do this, I can e-mail you the SUN
- instructions.
