  12. We used to get printer status/error messages on our console from
  13. both our postscript printers attached to serial ports on our 4/330
  14. server. (ie out of paper, bad postscript messages etc). One day, they
  15. disappeared, and I have never been able to get them back again. The
  16. message data comes from reading the serial port to get the serial
  17. output from the printer. The manual says that lpd hands over status to
  18. syslogd by default. I have tried lpd -L logfile, and a number of other
  19. tricks. I managed one day to get a log file by using cat /dev/ttyc >
  20. logfile, but this seems to blow up the print spooler. Why won't lpd
  21. deliver the postscript messages!!
