  16. People that do this should know two things:

  18. 1 -- Swapping on a file is NOT as fast as swapping on a raw partition.
  19. Theorertically they should be the same, but the vnode system doesn't
  20. have the ability to pass all the information one would need to make
  21. them the same speed.  Therefore, expect a small slow-down.

  23. 2 -- SunOS 4.1.x has a bug when swapping on a file.  If a very, very
  24. large program (we're talking >120meg) exits on such a system, it
  25. will take considerably longer than if you were using raw partitions.
  26. Sun has a patch for this, but it's not supported.
