We have a collection of SGI machines (IRIX 4.0.4) mounting each others
disks using NFS soft mounts.  One machine went down unexpectedly, but
in spite of being resurrected has left the others with "Stale NFS File
Handles", which we only seem able to clear by rebooting the other
machines.  We've tried unmounting and remounting the disks, but get
the stale file handle message whether we use the file system or the
directory name.  We've looked through the NFS Administration Guide
and greped the online release notes for "stale", but haven't found
anything pertinent.  Is there a less drastic method for clearing these
stale file handles?

PS fuser shows no processes accessing these directories and nfsstat
does not indicate any bad or sleeping calls.
