- (1) nslookup ip.address
- This is the best way, but requires that you run DNS and have a properly
- mainatained nameserver near you. Setting up DNS name servers is not so
- straight forward, as it requires cooperation from other system managers.

- (2) Telnet to the machine by address and look at the banners
- This will work if the machine is at all reachable, but the information
- may not be what you want, as many machines still do not display their
- fully qualified domain name in the login prompt.
