  13. Does anyone know if there is a way to install NETX (or EMSNETX, or
  14. XMSNETX) in CONFIG.SYS instead of later (AUTOEXEC.BAT, or whatever)
  15. for a DOS workstation??

  17. I have been playing with a DOS shell program other than COMMAND.COM
  18. which tries to swap itself out of conventional memory when it runs
  19. programs.  When it swaps back, however, it destroys any tsr's
  20. (such as NETX) that may have been loaded.  Therefore it is necessary
  21. to either (1) start up COMMAND.COM first, install NETX and then
  22. run the new shell, or else (2) find a way to install NETX from
  23. CONFIG.SYS before the any shell starts executing.

  25. The first option (COMMAND.COM, NETX then shell) works fine, but it
  26. wastes memory space.  The second option sounds better, but I can't
  27. find a way to successfully install NETX in CONFIG.SYS.

  29. Alternatively, does anyone know of a public-domain alternative to 
  30. NETX that would do what I'm looking for ??

  35. P.S.  The shell I'm looking at is Ian Stewartson's port of the
  36.       Unix Korn shell to DOS, referred to in the Free Software
  37.       Foundation's GNUish project.  Much of the GNUish software
  38.       is available at 'prep.ai.mit.edu' in 'pub/gnu/MicrosPorts',
  39.       but I got version 2.0 of sh.exe from 'wuarchive.wust.edu'
  40.       in 'mirrors/msdos/sysutl/ms_sh200.zip'.
