- Hi netters
-
- I just sucessfully upgraded to 3.0. Most of the things are running perfectly
- and the system has only crashed once when trying to move a directory from an
- external 2.1 disk to the internal 3.0 disk. (The 2.0 disk required 5 fsck
- passes to be "cleaned" - but I have a full backup.) I even managed to get
- appletalk to work and can share files with our macs.
-
- BUT: I cannot print directly to the apple laser via (ethernet) AppleTalk. I
- noticed that 3.0 has more configuration information files for printing than
- 2.1, but I did expect the appletalk stuff to work. I installed and enabled
- apple talk as mentioned in the docu. I created a new printer with the
- printermanager application as given in the man pages to apple talk an if I send
- something to print, it shows up in the queue and the lamps on the printer start
- to blink indicating incoming data, but nothing is actually printed. The
- EtherTalk <-> AppleTalk gateway is an old GatorBox. Printing from a Mac causes
- no problems. Remote printing via the BSD remote printer system to the GatorBox
- works!
-
- The other thing that disturbs me is creating a new account. Under 2.1 I had
- configured the /etc/nu.cf file to automatically select a specific group and
- home directory path so that the UserManager application would show up with the
- appropriate entries. This is no longer the case. The group is selected, but the
- home directory path is always /! What am I missing here?
