  13. I'm very confused about things:
  14.  
  15. 1.    Why do Palatino and other families--Architect, Bodoni, etc. 
  16.     generally look like road-kill on the screen?  
  17. 2.    Furthermore, some fonts (Palatino Roman 12) show up on-screen
  18.     as Helvetica!! 
  19.  
  20. Things get stranger when it's time to print.  
  21. 1.    When I print to a remote Apple NTX-J over NFS, things work.  
  22. 2.    When I print to a local NeXT color printer, I get Courier!!  
  23. 3.    When I try to print the public domain Architect font 
  24.     (never very predictable, even under 2.1) I get screen fonts,
  25.     but Courier on paper.

  27. To review steps taken thus far:
  28. 1.    Deleted the hidden files in the /LocalLibrary/Fonts 
  29.     directory (.afmcache, .fontdirectory, and .fontlist), 
  30. 2.    Logged in as root,ran buildafmdir and cacheAFMData 
  31. 3.    Made sure the permissions were set correctly for everybody,
  32. 4.    Logged back in as myself, and 
  33. 5.    Was promptly disappointed by what I saw.

  35. Any helpful hints from Those Who Know Better?
