- If the latest Nisus has all the features of MS Word 5.1/Mac and the
- ability to load in MS Word/Mac (any version) files, then I'd recommend
- Nisus in a moment too. But since so many people buy computers based on
- what software is available for them, and people convert to Macs just to
- run MS Word, then the availability of an appropriately priced and
- functionally-equivalent (equivalent to the Mac version) MS Word/NeXT
- might not be a bad thing for NeXT sales.
-
- Until then, TeX is nice and powerful, but there are so many people who
- want GUI word processors, someone could make a good chunk of money
- catering to our needs. There's so much potential with NeXTSTEP, it
- should be great when someone uses all of it.
-
- One last opinion about pricing: $800 for any piece of software is more
- than 4X too much. When I think about how much work NeXT has already
- put into NeXTSTEP that is available so easily (and work that NeXTSTEP
- consumers have already paid for), as well as considering that I got an
- entire piece of hardware and an operating system for less than that, I
- think it's just silly to price any single piece of software that high.
- But as long as people are willing to shell out that kind of money, I
- can only blame the consumers for doing so (and essentially telling the
- software publishers that that is a good price for what they're
- selling).
