- Recently there was law introduced to discourage this sort of behaviour.
- If I recall correctly, anyone caught with $2500 or more worth of
- pirated software, will receive a faily harsh fines (100K+) and
- mandatory prison.
-
- Naturally this type of legislation is difficult to enforce on a
- 'small' pirate. However, it is inteded is to make companies honest
- when it comes to software licensing issues, which is IMHO where the
- biggest loss can happen. Just imagine an office that has 10 computers.
- They buy one copy of your favorite word processor, and then install it
- on all of their machines. If this is done for say 3 packages at each
- averaging $250 that = $6700 of lost revenue. A lot for many smaller
- companies.
-
- I'll dig out the information, and post it in full detail, I believe there's
- even an 800 number for people to squeal on the pirate(s).
-
- I believe that the best way is to have a combination of what Louis
- Mamakos presented. I like the idea of run-time licesing. This way,
- you have freedom to run them in your computer. In an office environment,
- you can buy 4 licenses, you try to run a 5th, and "please call
- 800 ... to purchase an additional license.." a neat remider/sales pitch.
-
- Later,
